So it is official, Adam did NOT get accepted to University of Arizona. He is 150 on the waiting list. Which means he definitely won't be going there. Neither of us are quite sure why. It seemed like a given considering his MCAT score is much higher then the average and his GPA was the average. Adam has a number of different theories, but they don't make a lot of sense to me. He is planning on calling to find out what exactly held him back. He thinks whatever stopped him from getting into UofA is probably what is holding him back at all the schools who have yet to offer an interview or reject him. Oh well.
Adam went to his St. Louis interview and had a very interesting experience:
I took him to the airport Sunday evening and he found out, after waiting for a while, that the flight would be delayed. It ended up being delayed 45min to an hour, which would put him in St. Louis at 12:44am. Adam finally gets on the plane and he gives his happy ol' "howdy" to his neighbor for the flight and it turns out she is a grouchy woman who spilled well over into Adam's seat so he couldn't put his arm down by his side the entire time. He survived the flight and got to St. Louis, but unfortunately his checked bag didn't, including his suit for his interview. No one at the airport knew where is bag was so he filed a claim hoping it would show up. Adam found out later that the bag was never put on the plane; it got left in Phoenix.
Anyway, so Adam has no bag, just his wallet, phone, computer and the jeans and t-shirt he wore. He heads out of the airport to get his rental car. It is cold and raining cats and dogs with thunder and lightning (he doesn't have a jacket). The rental car place was closed. So he followed the instructions on the door that told him to wait for a shuttle. After not too long of a wait the shuttle comes and takes him to an alternative rental car place (same co. of course). Finally, he can get his car. Well, he finds out that he made a big mistake when he reserved the car. He reserved it for Columbus, Ohio NOT St. Louis, Missouri. Here comes the first stroke of good luck all night: it was going to cost Adam $175 a day to change the car rental around, but the guy that was helping him was brilliant and by switching Adam to Alamo (sister co. I guess) instead saved us $100 a day. So it only cost $10-15 extra a day! YAY, Adam has his car now he drives to the motel. Second stroke of luck: Adam finds a thrift store across the street from the motel and is able to by a really warm sweatshirt and an umbrella for very little moolah, so now he can stay fairly warm and dry. Bad stroke of luck: the guy sleeping in the room next to him snored unusually loud! Fortunately, Adam was able to change rooms.
The next morning Adam tried to shower the best he could without getting his hair wet. You see, he didn't have his hair gel with him because it was in his bag and if he couldn't dress nice, he at least wanted his hair to look good. Anyway, he goes to his interview in his jeans and t-shirt and here comes the next BIG stroke of good luck: his interviewer just happen to be the coolest guy on the committee. He laughed when Adam told him the story of his bag and commented that he didn't even know why they need to dress up (apparently other interviewers are stiffs about the appearance of the interviewees). Adam said he felt the interview went very well. The interviewer said that it is late in the process so many are getting bumped to the waiting list, and he might also, but he does have "reason to be optimistic."
Well, that was the end of the ridiculously bad events. Adam toured the city a little, got lost, ended up in Illinois, found his way again and made it back to the airport okay. Another good stroke of luck: they found his bag! It was later sent it to St. Louis and Adam was able to pick it up before his flight back to Phoenix. Despite having to wait 40 min at the bag claim, his bag DID show up in Phoenix. So after the handsome prince fought many dragons, he finally came home to his beautiful wife and they lived happily ever after. The End :D (I couldn't help myself.)
Wow. This is a crazy story. You can always count on Adam to keep his cool in a situation like that. I probably would have just sat down and cried!
